The Media Officer for Far West LHD is Branko Licul on 0411 119 592 or email branko.licul@health.nsw.gov.au

The Media Unit is the primary point of contact for news organisations. All media enquiries must come through the Media Unit in the first instance. This includes:

  • Requests for interviews
  • Photo requests of staff, patients or our facilities
  • General enquiries about health issues
  • Any condition updates on patients who have been injured in an accident or are otherwise of interest to the media

Please do not call our hospitals directly as they are not allowed to provide this information.

Staff are not permitted to speak to journalists or representatives of media organisations without the knowledge or permission of the Media Officer.

An On-Call Media Officer is available after normal business hours to assist media with urgent enquiries. This is organised on a roster basis and the correct person to contact is available via a voicemail message on 0411 119 592.

A Special Thank You From Health Service To Its Volunteers

Far West Local Health District is recognising the contribution by the many volunteers to the health services across the district as part of NSW Health Volunteers Appreciation Day.

NSW Health greatly values the relationship fostered with volunteers who generously give their time, knowledge and life experiences to support our health services.

Celebrations across the Far West Local Health District:

Broken Hill: A special morning tea to be held at the Broken Hill Hospital on Friday 16 March from 10.30am.

Broken Hill Health Service Acting General Manager, Ms Patricia Holtze, said: “The special morning tea is a small but heartfelt gesture of appreciation for the volunteers and everything they do for the health service”.

“All of our volunteers make an enormous contribution in their respective areas and in a variety of ways to the organisation and the wider community. They bring a positive influence to the lives of our patients, their families, carers and our staff, and we are extremely appreciative of the difference they make to our health service,” said Ms Holtze.

BH Health Service volunteers include the Hospital Kiosk volunteers, those who assist the staff at the Mental Health Inpatient Unit and Carers Groups, the Artist in Residence, the Dementia/Delirium & Palliative Care volunteers, the Aqua and Tai Chi Leaders, the Patient Family Support Staff volunteers, our co-located volunteers from Telecross Red Cross, Broken Hill Women’s Auxiliary RFDS Hospital visitor Mrs Pam Lord and local club volunteers from the Working Men’s club who visit fellow club members who are patients in the hospital. The morning tea also includes the Broken Hill Health Council who play a valuable role in consumer participation and engagement.

Mary Leehane, FWLHD Volunteer Manager said: “Many of our volunteers tell me how much they enjoy volunteering and the immense satisfaction they get from their contribution to our health service. This is one of my favourite celebrations for our volunteers as the staff prepare much of the morning tea and serve the volunteers, demonstrating their appreciation of our volunteers and it’s always a happy and fun morning, said Mary.
