  • Requests for interviews
  • Photo requests of staff, patients or our facilities
  • General enquiries about health issues
  • Any condition updates on patients who have been injured in an accident or are otherwise of interest to the media

Please do not call our hospitals directly as they are not allowed to provide this information.

Community Invited To Join Wilcannia Health Council

Members of the Wilcannia community with an interest in the future of health services are being encouraged to come along to nominate for appointment to the Wilcannia Health Council.

Far West Local Health District Community Engagement Manager Darriea Turley said: “Health Councils provide an opportunity for individual members of the community to work with health managers and planners to identify, from a consumer perspective, the needs of their community and services that are required. Health Council members have a vital role in bringing health issues to the attention of the Far West Local Health District”.

“I encourage community members to consider joining the Health Council. Health Councils bring health issues to the attention of the Health Service and actively participate in planning and service development, quality assurance and policy development,” she said.

Training will be provided on Thursday 24th August at the Wilcannia Health Service. There are opportunities for wider participation in committees and workshops associated with areas of personal interest’.

“Health Council members are committed to giving the community a voice on issues that affect the health and wellbeing of its citizens,” said Wilcannia Health Service Manger, Martin Cushing.

“Health Councils provide good planning advice to the Far West Local Health District based on local knowledge and also to seek answers to questions and concerns being expressed by the community regarding the current running and planning of the health service,” he said.

Members can come from all sorts of backgrounds and do not need to have health professional experience. In fact, applicants without a health professional background are most welcome as they are able to bring a truly independent consumer perspective to their role.

Anyone requiring more information or a nomination form is invited to contact Mr Martin Cushing, Wilcannia Health Service Manager on 08 8083 8707.
