The Far West LHD Media Unit is responsible for all media inquiries and interviews with Far West LHD staff members. The Unit regularly advises on major public health issues and disease outbreaks, through media releases, media conferences and, sometimes, special telephone hotlines.

Tai Chi Information Day
The extremely popular Tai Chi program run by the Far West Local Health District is scheduled to recommence in early April.
Information sessions to explain all about Tai Chi and the program will be held on:

Volunteer Tai Chi Leader Gail Turner is thrilled with the response from the community and the interest shown in the popular program.
‘I’m very happy that I am able to share my love of Tai Chi, with our community. Over the last three years the classes have increased, we started with one class on a Wednesday and in 2017 we will be continuing with the Advanced Class on Wednesday, starting a Beginners Class on Friday, 14 April at 10am and a Beginners class at 9.30am Saturday, 15 April,” she said.
Far West LHD Volunteer Manager, Mary Leehane said she was pleased that Gail will be assisted in the classes by three additional volunteers, Betty den Haan, Margaret Grillett and Ellen Hamilton. Betty, Ellen and Margaret are long standing members of the advanced class and Betty completed her Tai Chi Training in 2014. Both Ellen and Margaret are looking forward to undertaking her Tai Chi Training in March 2017.
Mrs Leehane also extended her thanks to the South Broken Hill Golf Club for donating the club’s facilities free of charge for these classes. “Far West LHD is grateful for their continued support of these classes which are run for the benefit of the Broken Hill community”.
The benefits of regularly practicing Tai Chi can result in: improved fitness; muscle strength, coordination and flexibility; improves balance and decreases risk of falls; eases pain and stiffness and helps you to relax and feel better.
The information sessions will include a demonstration of Tai Chi and information on the wide ranging benefits of Tai Chi, as well as outlining the structure of the classes.
