Integrated Violence Prevention Response Services

The Integrated Violence Prevention Response Service is a growing service in the Far West Local Health District and consists of the following services:

Rounded Rectangle: Sexual Assault ServiceSexual Assault Service

Onsite and outreach crisis and ongoing counselling, 24/7 medical and forensic services, reports, court preparation and support, and advocacy for children, young people and adults who have experienced sexual assault, and their non-offending family members/significant others and caregivers.

Sexual Assault Services also contribute to NSW Health’s response to children under 10 years old with problematic or harmful sexual behaviour (harmful to self or others) if they are also victims of sexual assault.

The Sexual Assault Service is currently in the process of establishing a 24 hour Sexual Assault Assessment Centre at the Wilcannia Health Service which will provide telehealth crisis counselling, psychosocial/forensic/medical assessments and information to victims (adults and children) and their non-offending family members when they present to the hospital. The Wilcannia Sexual Assault Assessment Centre aims to prevent unnecessary travel for victims of sexual assault. The staff responding via telehealth will have the knowledge, skills and relevant assessment training to able to assess and determine if transfer to the nearest level 4 facility (Broken Hill) is warranted.

Rounded Rectangle: Joint Investigative Response Team (JIRT)

Joint Investigative Response Team (JIRT) Senior/Health Clinicians

JIRT Senior/Health Clinicians provide a health response to children and families in JIRT and manage the NSW Health response to JIRT Referral Unit (JRU) referrals by facilitating access to appropriate health services for JIRT matters.

 

 

Rounded Rectangle: Child Protection Counselling ServiceChild Protection Counselling Service

The child protection counselling service (CPCS) works with infants, children, young people and their families and cares where risk of significant harm due to the presence of domestic violence, abuse and/or neglect has been substantiated by Family and Community Services (FACS).

The aims of the service are to help children recover from the harms resulting from experiences of maltreatment and/or exposure to domestic violence and to prevent children from future harm and where possible strengthen the likelihood for them to safely remain or return to their family.

Rounded Rectangle: Out of Home Care Health PathwaysOut of Home Care Health Pathways and Child Wellbeing Coordinator

The Out of Home Care Health Pathway’s primary role is to plan, implement and monitor the process of providing health assessments for children and young people entering Out of Home Care (OOHC) within Far West Local Health District.  The role is overarching, with coordination, monitoring and reporting functions.

The Child Wellbeing role provides support and advice to mandatory reporters regarding risk of harm assessments and assists in the facilitation of referral pathways/responses to assist vulnerable families. The role also acts as a strategic link between the Child Wellbeing Units and the FWHD and gathers data and trends relating to child protection.
